Artist: Ruth González-Muhlestein
Title: Al Aire
Material: digital & paper collage, and embroidery.
About the artwork: “Al Aire” means exposed in Spanish. Exposed, vulnerable. Is vulnerability strength or weakness? Is it fragility or fortitude? How do we recognize the difference between unveiled and unprotected? Discovered and denuded? Life through 2020 and beyond has felt like vacillating between these, and at times it feels like beauty and agony all at once.
About the artist: Ruth is a second-generation Mexican-American who was born and raised in Orem, UT. She is passionate about anti-bias anti-racism work and educational equity and works as a custodian for her condo complex in addition to working as social media specialist for Utah Educational Equity Coalition.
